Hello
I am Rhituja, a Project Scientist at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, with a background in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Pune, India. My passion lies in exploring the intricacies of weather phenomena and understanding their underlying physical mechanisms. The fascinating climate and weather articles I have come across have inspired me to embark on my very first blog-writing venture.
Your valuable feedback and views would be immensely appreciated as I embark on this journey. Thank you for joining me!
My Story
When I was choosing what to study, I came across Atmospheric Sciences, a field I had never heard of, which was exactly what made it interesting.
Before committing, I did what I think more people should do — I reached out to alumni online, had real conversations, asked what the field actually felt like from the inside. What I heard back was something I hadn't expected: that this was a subject you don't just study in a classroom. You live it. You feel it every single day.
That turned out to be true in ways I couldn't have anticipated.
The deeper I went into the field, the more I started noticing things I had always taken for granted. Clouds. The specific shape of them, what they were telling me about what was happening in the atmosphere above. The reason winter felt the way it did this year versus last. Why the monsoon arrived when it did, and why it sometimes doesn't. Knowing the why behind things you feel in your body every day — the cold, the heat, the rain — does something to you. It makes the world feel less random. More legible. And somehow, that feels like a kind of power.
I started this blog because I want to share some of that. Not the textbook version but the felt version. The version where understanding a little bit of science changes how you experience an ordinary Tuesday in June. If someone reads something here and walks away with one new thing they didn't know before, or looks at the sky differently on their commute home, that's enough. That's what this is for.
